Details

The Red Kite is a supremely graceful bird when in flight, and is now once more a common sight in Britain. But back in 1970 this bird had almost disappeared from our island and was restricted to a very few remaining pairs, all in the Cambrian Mountains above Tregaron. With careful protection and conservation, the population was gradually increased and spread more widely over subsequent decades, until it reached its present distribution.

Still a local icon in West Wales, the kite is now a symbol of successful wildlife regeneration everywhere, offering us hope in an uncertain future.
