Details

A design inspired by the legend of Llyn-y-Fan Fach, a lake in the Brecon Beacons. A young shepherd was tending his sheep when he saw a beautiful girl rise out of the lake, and immediately fell in love with her. After three attempts he persuaded her to speak to him and eventually to marry him. She came to him from the lake and following her came a herd of wonderful white cattle. They both lived happily together for a while, rearing their children and their increasing herd of cattle beside the lake. But she was no earthly woman and there were conditions attached to the marriage agreement, which her husband broke, albeit accidentally. She promptly disappeared back into the lake along with all the cattle.

But she appeared again to her sons on several occasions, teaching them a secret lore of plants and healing herbs. Their descendants were the famous Physicians of Myddfai, a family of skilled physicians who became renowned doctors for many generations, until recent times. According to local tradition the white park cattle of Dinefwr are descended from the magic cattle of Llyn-y-Fan and have been there longer than anyone can remember.
