Details

From a stone cross at Llangadwaladr in Anglesey - this stone bears a memorial inscription to Cadfan, King of Gwynedd, who died about 625 B.C.

Carved stone crosses are an important part of our Celtic heritage. The earliest date from as far back as the 6th Century and consist of crudely incised cross shapes on standing stones. Later high crosses, dating from the 8th to the 11th Century, are often carved on all faces with very finely decorated panels of knotwork, spiral patterns, animal figures and Biblical scenes.
