This original design by Rhiannon combines knotwork and animal motifs in a flowing ‘manuscript’ style. The Irish Sea was a very important link between Wales, Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man, carrying goods and ideas between the Celtic lands. In all of them there is a common legend that the white waves in the sea are the horses of Manannan, the ‘Sea God’ who resides in the Isle of Man. This powerful image has been used by Guinness in an award-winning advert, proving that our Celtic inheritance is still very relevant to us today.
